Launch the media gallery 1 player - media #1Over the last two weekends, the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) held the Track and Field State Finals. The first weekend the girls took over Charleston and the blue track at O'Brien Field. The following weekend it was the boys turn to do the same.
Both weekends, the Tri-County Co-op Track and Field team had a Hunt participating. Oakland HS sophomore Kaylenn Hunt represented the Titans during the girls finals. The next week her brother Ramsey, a junior at Oakland HS, donned the purple, orange, and blue to compete against the state's best.
Kaylenn competed in three events; the long jump, triple jump, and high jump. After Thursday's qualifiers, she found her self in the finals of all three events. Returning on Saturday the 18th, Kaylenn ended up on the medal stand for all three events. She placed 5th in the long jump with a leap of 17 ft 9 1/2 inches. She followed that up in the trip jump with a hop, skip, and a jump of 36 ft 11 12 inches. That was good enough for a 6th place finish. Kaylenn then wrapped up her day over at the high jump. In that event, she place 7th with a mark of 5 feet 3 inches.
Not to be outdone, Ramsey also qualified for three events the final weekend. Ramsey competed in Thursday's qualifying long jump, triple jump, and 300 intermediate hurdles. Struggling to get in a rhythm, he failed to clear the opening height in the high jump. However, Ramsey did advance to the finals in both the long jump and triple jump. He started his Saturyday morning with a 4th place finish in the long jump. That mark was good enough for a 6th place finish. However, Ramsey was just getting warmed up. He then went over to the triple jump and with a mark of 46 ft 3 1/4 inches placed 1st and was named the State Champion.
Kaylenn's three medals generated 23 points for Tri-County. That was good enough for 23rd place in the team standings. Although he only competed in two events at the finals, Ramsey was able to earn 14 in the team count. Those 14 points place Tri-County in 17th place in the team standings.
Obviously, brother and sister both had successful weekends during the finals. However, it is safe to say that both will expect more and set the bar even higher for next season as both will be returning for the 2020 season.
