Universal Indoor Masking Required in Schools - Updated 8/4/21
Launch the media gallery 1 playerToday, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker announced masks will be required for students, teachers, staff, and guests at pre-kindergarten-12th grade schools. The new measure is part of the state’s ongoing effort to combat a new surge as the Delta variant rapidly spreads.
While we all advocated for local control and thought we actually had local control in this matter, we are disappointed that this control has now been taken away from us.
The mask requirement is inclusive of youth sports and activities, with masks now required for all indoor extra-curriculars and sports. In line with CDC guidance, masks are not required for activities outdoors where transmission risks and rates are lower.
Today’s announcement differs from the reopening plan our school district recently adopted. At this time, the Board of Education will meet in the near future to review the new rules and will be communicating with you any changes as soon as possible.
