Free Breakfast and Lunch for All Students
Launch the media gallery 1 playerOakland CUSD #5 is happy to announce that school breakfast & school lunch will be free for ALL students regardless of household income for the 2022-2023 school year.
Recently, some parents have been inquiring about why Oakland CUSD #5 did not participate in this program and were told the district did not qualify. To say we did not qualify was incorrect and Mr. Landeck apologizes for that wording. The reason the district has not participated in the past and did not plan on participating moving forward was because the reimbursement rate for meals in this program is less than the reimbursement rate for meals in the traditional program and the district would have lost about $12,000 a year by participating. However, by working with the Illinois State Board of Education the last few days, the district has gained access to other funds for the lunch program that will offset that loss.
If you have already put money into your child’s lunch account, it will be returned to you in the next couple of weeks.
We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused, but we are also happy to announce that this program is now in place to help our families!!!
